To suggest framework for a start-up syndication and licensing function in a political intelligence and data organisation.
Aim:
Scope Syndication monetisation opportunity for business / political intelligence organisation.
What I did:
I was asked to assess the digital assets in the client’s portfolio to establish rights, ownership and any IP or
data concerns before scoping the commercial opportunity.
Once this was ascertained, I advised the client on any risk issues and the need to agree any third party rights
or contractual terms with suppliers whose content would be included in the Syndication offering. I then recommended various approaches based on the client’s longer
term resource plans to sustain the function going forward. It was agreed that the initial planning would be done as a one piece of work and once contracts were agreed,
they would roll the management of the relationship into senior commercial or events teams already existing in the business. I also suggested outsourced options
“agent for publisher” services I was aware of, syndication agencies, or skilled freelance resource.
Once a framework was agreed, I offered suggestions of specific
companies and platforms which would be likely to onboard this type of content and revenue models to support.
Results:
client kicked off the project with 6 partners I recommended,
Contract framework was simple and efficient.
Revenue started to come through after one quarter.
